Many of us grew up in the 80’s watching the ultimate Engineer/Maker/Inventor/Improvisor.
Yes, I’m talking about Angus MacGyver.
It didn’t matter that some of the inventions seemed a little outlandish. In our minds, they were just plain awesome uses of science!
And little did we know, there would be this acronym in the future, STEM, to describe what Mac did in every show. He didn’t have a textbook or worksheet type of understanding of physics or chemistry. He knew it. He understood it. He lived it.
And it saved his life more than once.
So, when your students ask “when are we ever gonna use this stuff anyway” maybe you can show them a clip from MacGyver and say “It could save your life someday”…after they stop laughing at his mullet.
