What is CES & How can it Inspire your Students?

0

Do you ever feel like your kids aren’t inspired? Creative?

Or maybe sometimes they’re too creative and you need some way to harness that creativity.

Every year in January, almost 200,000 people trek to Las Vegas for a huge convention called CES (that’s short for Consumer Electronics Show) to check out the latest and greatest ideas in gadgets, screens, toys, technology…and more!  And every year, I follow along online (what, you think I’d leave my students alone for a week?) and watch the reviews and thoughts from the media and social media.

***Side note…a great place to follow along is at CNET https://www.cnet.com/ces/ and their YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/user/CNETTV or follow on Twitter #CES

So, every year, as I’m watching all the cool ideas shared, I share them with my students.  And I watch their minds go BOOM!

Because what would you think when you see a machine that can play ping pong with you…

…or when you see a device that can charge your phone from across the room.

And what teacher wouldn’t like to find out more about a tablet that kids can build…

So, what can you do next January in your classroom?

Follow along with CES on your favorite social media or news outlet, show your students some of the ideas, and ask them questions like “What would you design?” or “How could you improve a current product?” or “Would that idea even work?”

And maybe you can even let your kids design the next great invention…
